We have many happy memories to cherish: our epic trek over the Tongariro Crossing in NZ, island hopping and the many concerts, dinners and lunches shared. Our house is full of superb pieces of furniture you made for us, a daily reminder of your many talents and artistry. We will miss you, dear Renaissance man.

Such amazing memories of David. Turkish holidays, treks up mountains and adventures in France, practicing our whittling skills with opinels, that laugh, an amazing writer and painter. So creative and so clever. We will miss you so much. I’m thankful my childhood is full of fantastic memories of time spent with you David, and your lovely family. Sending love to you all xx

So many wonderful moments over the years, Charney Bassett, Cheddar, Montpellier, the list goes on. David was always so warm, thoughtful, knowledgeable and interesting. We have had lots of adventures together: goat rescue with Aydin from the Jelka; painting toenails and french plaiting David and Geoff’s hair at Attila’s; wild boar chez Jouves; picnics on the Chemin St Jacques; fabulous meals including an”emergency” trip to Montreal to celebrate Linda’s birthday; lots of plant exchange and identification; listening to him singing; watching him paint and write his diary. Most of all we will miss just spending time together over a bottle of something wonderful and telling stories with lots of laughter. David was a true polymath, there aren’t many of them in the world. What a privilege to be his friend.

David, the world is not the same without you. So many special memories of times with you and Dilys there, growing up with Thomas and Alice. I will always remember your sketch pad and water colours, and of course the famous trek up Pic Saint Loup, the rain and the sanglier. I also remember your amazing way with animals and Sparkler the guinea pig (Albi’s daughter). And being rather shocked when hearing about Barnaby! Lots of laughs and fun moments and sending all the Clarksons hugs from Katriona, Simon, Jess and Tamsin xx

David; my beloved Uncle- was a good listener; a great thinker with a stunning memory. He was clever; studious, driven and participative. Kind, careful, resourceful, poetic and artistic. Expressive and inclusive, musical, inquisitive, open minded. A great letter-writer with a distinctive compact, neat handwriting. We shared an eclectic love of music in its widest sense. He had a joy in making music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice . His academic achievements were complemented by a love of the natural world, of walking and creating things. His paintings and careful craftsmanship in designing and making unique and beautiful furniture has afforded us tangible and lasting reminders of him. Norma
