David , What other people said:-

We received so many beautiful cards and letters in the days after dad's passing, so many people had such wonderful things to say about him and I wanted to share some of that today as a true testimony of the man he was .

An interested friend, Kind,  wonderful and so supportive of others in their projects

A Broad, well balanced view of life

Delightful, talented and special

A great mentor and friend

One of the best persons I ever met and I will never forget his kindness, his intelligence and the warm feelings he had for his students and colleagues.

David always went out of his way to help people and could be relied upon to identify issues with research programs, but then gently suggest ways to manage activities to solve problems. This was done in a quiet supportive way. His legacy lives on in his students and his family and friends.

He leaves a significant and everlasting memory in my soul and an important and positive footprint on this earth

A fountain of knowledge

A lovely gentleman, always interested in what was happening in the garden, the countryside and the world.

His love and knowledge of nature was an inspiration

The games master at dinner parties

A talented singer and actor. A true gentleman , generous and welcoming with a wonderful and rich singing voice

Wonderful sense of humour, his bright intelligence, thoughtfulness and warmth.

A unique person, so enthusiastic about life, so active in pursuing all his interests and passions and so in love with his family.

Touring his workshop and chatting about making things

A lovely man, a pleasure to talk and dance with. Good company, kind and thoughtful and fun with that lovely twinkle in his eye

The kind of dad I wanted to be.

A life well lived and much for all of us to remember him by.

I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have a dad like him, I knew he was an incredibly successful and intelligent man and I admired that so much , but some of my favorite things to note include

The way he laughed at his own jokes with his ‘Jack Nicholson’ side bite grin and twinkly eyes

For moving us to France for that year, an opportunity that I relish now.

For the walking holidays that despite moaning and groaning somewhat when we were rather lost with miles to go, I now cannot wait to try and recreate with my own kids

For His funny accents and silly songs, of which he was happy to perform any time anywhere at the drop of a hat. The last fond memory of this was an after dinner sea shanty in the garden for my friend Kelly.

His unique and wonderful dance style, a few moves I'm so thankful Tom has acquired.

His beautiful illustrated holiday journals, like the picture here in the order of service, these treasures are a legacy to savor for years to come

For his thirst and interests in all music. Dad was the first person I know that listened to the entire 2nd CD of Goldies Mother, a brutal, experimental 1hr piece of Drum an Bass!  The way he took to Wyclef Jean of the Fugees after I left the CD single of Gone Till November at home when I left for Uni.

That openness and interest in all was such an amazing trait dad had.

And finally for  sleeping out in the garden under the night sky with me, no tent required right at the bottom of the garden.

Night Dad .
